Terms of use
The conditions for using Tara, in plain language.
This is an English translation provided for convenience. The Spanish version is the binding one.
Important: Tara provides general information about nutrition and activity. It is not medical advice and does not replace a healthcare professional.
1. Who provides the service
Tara is a free web app owned by Álvaro Peña Vélez (full details in the legal notice). By using Tara you accept these terms. If you don't agree, don't use it.
2. What Tara is
Tara estimates energy expenditure using published formulas and tables, lets you log meals, weight and activity, suggests calorie and macronutrient targets, and provides information on nutrition, training and injury recovery, with links to its sources.
3. It is not medical advice
- The figures are estimates. Any calculation can be off by 10 % or more for a given person.
- Tara does not diagnose or treat and is not a medical device.
- Consult a professional before changing your diet or activity if you have an illness, are pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication, are recovering from an injury or surgery, or have had an eating disorder.
- If you have symptoms, pain that doesn't improve or an emergency, see a doctor or call 112.
4. Requirements
Automatic plans are intended for adults aged 18 and over only.
5. Account, your data and your backups
You can use Tara without an account or create one for free. Without an account, your logs are stored only on your device: if you clear your browser data, change phones or uninstall the app without downloading a backup, they will be lost and the owner cannot recover them.
With an account, your logs are also stored in Tara's database. You must provide a real email address, choose a secure password and not share it; you are responsible for what is done with your account. You can delete it whenever you like from the app. The owner may suspend an account used fraudulently or against these terms. Although backups are made and the service is looked after, data loss cannot be ruled out: it's a good idea to download a backup now and then. More information in the privacy policy.
6. Proper use
You agree to use Tara lawfully and not to try to damage, copy for commercial purposes or alter the app or its content.
7. Free and with no commitment
Tara does not charge for use. It may show affiliate links labelled as such and a link to make a voluntary donation; none of this is mandatory or changes what the app recommends. More information in the legal notice.
8. Availability and changes
Tara is offered free of charge and as is. The owner may modify, extend or withdraw features, or interrupt the service, at any time. If these terms change, the new version will be published on this page with its date.
9. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, the owner is not liable for damages arising from decisions made based on Tara's estimates and information, errors in third-party data (such as food composition tables or Open Food Facts' collaborative data), the loss of data stored on your device or service interruptions. Nothing above limits your rights under consumer protection law or liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
10. Intellectual property
Tara's content, design and code belong to its owner or are used under licence. The scientific sources and databases cited belong to their authors.
11. Applicable law
These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer, the courts of your place of residence will have jurisdiction.
