What Tara stores in your browser and why you don't need to accept cookies.
This is an English translation provided for convenience. The Spanish version is the binding one.
Tara doesn't use cookies or any advertising or tracking tools. To know how many visits it gets, it uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and identifies no one. That's why we don't ask you to accept cookies.
What Tara stores in your browser
To work, the app uses the browser's local storage and a cache to work offline. These are strictly necessary to provide the service you request, so they don't require consent (article 22.2 of the Spanish LSSI-CE and the Spanish Data Protection Agency's guide on cookies).
| Name | Type | What it's for | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| tara (database) | IndexedDB, first party | Storing your profile and logs on the device, an automatic copy before syncing and, if you have an account, the last synced version of each record | Until you delete it |
| tara-macros-v1 | Local storage, first party | Only in browsers without IndexedDB: storing your profile and logs | Until you delete it |
| tara-keep-nudge | Local storage, first party | Remembering when we last reminded you to keep your data safe | Until you delete it |
| tara-news | Local storage, first party | Remembering which app updates you have already seen | Until you delete it |
| tara-boot | Local storage, first party | Checking that the app starts properly so it can repair itself if it fails (counters and dates only) | Until you delete it |
| tara-flags, tara-force | Local storage, first party | Keeping maintenance notices and switches (for example, a paused feature or a required update) so they work offline, and not repeating a required update in a loop | Until you delete it |
| tara-heal-ver, tara-quarantine-v1, tara-backup-v1 | Local storage, first party | Only in browsers without IndexedDB: keeping damaged records aside, the version that last tried to repair them and the automatic copy made before syncing | Until you delete it |
| tara-ls-fallback | Local storage, first party | Technical marker of an emergency save when the browser database fails, so that change is not lost | Until the next normal save |
| tara-sync | Local storage, first party | If you have an account: knowing which changes still need saving to it | Until you log out or delete it |
| sb-…-auth-token | Local storage, from Supabase (Tara's account system) | If you have an account: keeping you logged in | Until you log out |
| tara-legal-v1, tara-welcome-v1 | Local storage, first party | Remembering that you've seen the welcome screen and legal notice | Until you delete it |
| tara-lang | Local storage, first party | Remembering the language you chose (Spanish or English) | Until you delete it |
| tara-v… (cache) | Service worker, first party | Storing the app's files so it works offline | Until a new version is published or you delete it |
Third-party services
The app's fonts and libraries are served from Tara's own domain: your browser does not connect to Google Fonts or other servers to load them. When you search for products or scan a new barcode, the app queries Open Food Facts (through Tara's intermediate server, if it is active). When it opens, the app reads maintenance notices from Tara's database (Supabase) and, if something fails, sends it a technical error report. To count visits, the app loads the Cloudflare Web Analytics script, which collects aggregated technical data (page visited, country, device type and browser) without cookies or identifiers. These services don't set cookies through Tara, but they receive your IP address in order to respond. More information in the privacy policy.
Affiliate links and donations
If you tap an affiliate link (for example, to Amazon) or the link to support Tara, you leave the app and that website may set its own cookies under its policy. Tara doesn't set any cookies by showing those links.
How to delete this data
From the app itself (Settings → delete data) or from your browser settings: in Safari, Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data; in Chrome, Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings. Bear in mind that deleting it removes your logs if you haven't downloaded a backup first.
