What Tara is
Tara is a free web app for calories, macros, activity, hydration and injury recovery. You use it in your phone's or computer's browser and you can install it like any other app. You answer a 2 to 6 minute questionnaire, depending on the level of detail you choose, and each day you log food, weight and activity. Tara tells you how much you have left, why, and how your body responds.
You decide on your macros: Tara calculates them, you pick a template or you enter them yourself. If you want to look around before starting, you can open it with example data.
What makes it different
What you burn, from your real day, hour by hour
Instead of multiplying by a single activity factor, it estimates your expenditure hour by hour: it starts from your resting expenditure and takes into account your work, your steps, your training and the digestion of what you eat. Exercise uses METs, your weight and the time, minus the sitting time it replaces.
A training calendar
Plan your activities and, if you choose to, each day's target follows your calendar: more carbs and water on training days. If you log what you actually did, it replaces the plan.
Eating to recover
Choose what you have injured (tendon or ligament, muscle, bone, wound or surgery, joint) and whether you are resting or in rehab. Tara tells you which nutrients to increase, which not to overdo and with which foods, and how much evidence is behind each one.
Water that adapts to you
It starts from the EFSA reference and raises it if you burn or eat a lot (1 ml per kcal). On training days it adds sweat: 0.6 L per hour by default, or your own rate if you weigh yourself before and after.
With sources, and clear about its limits
It uses published equations, EFSA and ISSN references, the Compendium of Physical Activities and foods from the Ciqual 2025 table. Everything is explained, with sources, in How everything is calculated. And it says what it is: an estimate, not a measurement.
It corrects itself with your data
With 2 to 3 weeks of complete logs and weigh-ins, it compares what you eat with your trend weight and adjusts your target in small, cautious steps. If you set your macros by hand, it leaves them alone.
Free, ad-free and offline
It costs nothing and has no ads. Once opened, the basics work without internet; searching products on Open Food Facts and syncing with your account do need a connection.
Your data, on your device
Without an account, what you log is stored only in your browser. With an optional account, it is also stored in the cloud so you don't lose it and can use it on several devices. No tracking cookies and no advertising.
In English and Spanish
The whole app, the explanations and the legal texts are available in both languages. You can switch language at any time in the settings.
