kcal a day
You burn about – kcal a day on average.
- Protein–
- Carbs–
- Fat–
Daily average including your training. In the app, training days go up and rest days go down.
Log what you eat and Tara adjusts the plan to your real weight.
How it is calculated
- Resting expenditure with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation.
- Your day hour by hour: sleep, work, steps, chores and sitting time, each with its own expenditure (METs from the Compendium of Physical Activities).
- Your training from METs, your weight and the time, minus the sitting time it replaces, plus the digestion of what you eat.
- To lose fat, a prudent deficit: never more than 20 % (or 500 kcal) and never below 1,500 kcal for men and 1,200 for women. To gain, a small surplus.
- Protein in grams per kilo for your goal and training; fat between 20 and 30 %; carbs make up the rest.
Every formula and its sources, in How it is calculated.
Frequently asked questions
Is it accurate?
It is an estimate, not a measurement. It is a starting point; with 2 or 3 weeks of logs and weigh-ins, the Tara app compares what you eat with your weight and adjusts the target.
Why not an activity factor?
Multiplying your resting rate by a single factor (1.2, 1.55…) lumps work, steps and sport into one number. Tara adds up your day hour by hour and your training separately, so you can see where each calorie comes from.
Does it store my data?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent or stored. If you want to keep your plan, open it in the Tara app.
